Serum Ascites Albumin Gradient (SAAG) – Dr Lal Path Labs

This assay is considered as the most reliable method to differentiate peritoneal transudate from exudate. Ascitis caused by portal hypertension has gradient greater than 1.1 g/dL (transudate) whereas ascitis due to other causes has a gradient less than 1.1 g/dL (exudate).
